Founded in 2008 by Tracy and Rodney Allen, A Shade Above has proudly provided high-quality window treatments and interior design services throughout the greater Richmond area. What truly sets us apart is our commitment to blending personalized design with genuine care for each client's home.

    Tracy

    Tracy, the co-owner and principal designer at A Shade Above, exudes an infectious enthusiasm and warmth that instantly puts customers at ease. With a natural knack for understanding customers' unique needs, Tracy goes above and beyond to offer personalized solutions. Her greatest pleasure is helping individuals enhance their living spaces by seamlessly harmonizing functionality and aesthetics to craft exquisite window solutions.

    Outside of her work, she enjoys shopping and has a natural gift for hosting, often bringing friends and family together in warm, welcoming spaces. She values spending quality time with her family and especially cherishes getting away with her husband to relax, recharge, and create lasting memories.

    Rodney

    Rodney, co-owner of A Shade Above, brings a wealth of experience in the construction industry. Having previously owned a successful business specializing in railing and trim, he now heads Allen Custom Builders.

    As a skilled carpenter, Rodney works closely with the A Shade Above installation team, collaborating to solve highly intricate and technically challenging projects. His expertise is widely recognized, with local manufacturers seeking his advice and recommendations.

    In his free time, Rodney's love for fishing serves as a well-deserved respite from the demands of his professional life.

    Tasha

    With more than 20 years of experience in fiber arts and creative design, Tasha brings both expertise and enthusiasm to every project she takes on. With her background in interior design, sewing, and pattern development, her strong attention to detail and commitment to exceptional customer service ensures a smooth and enjoyable experience for every client.

    When she's not working with clients, Tasha enjoys life as a wife and proud mother of six. She loves traveling with her family and creating meaningful memories together. In her downtime, Tasha also enjoys crafting, channeling her creativity into hands-on projects, as well as quiet evenings with her husband to relax and unwind.

    Julia

    For over a decade, Julia has dedicated herself to the furniture, rug, and home decor industry, accumulating a wealth of experience across diverse areas such as sales, merchandising, marketing, and business management before joining A Shade Above in 2021. Her multifaceted skill set positions her as a linchpin in guaranteeing the seamless functioning of A Shade Above, assuming responsibilities ranging from schedule coordination to project management.

    When she’s not holding down the fort at A Shade Above, Julia fuels her creativity by working on home improvement projects, exploring new food options, and attending live concerts.

    JD

    JD is a seasoned professional with an impressive 12 year track record in the window covering business, specializing in installation. A veteran Marine, JD’s disciplined background has shaped him into a meticulous and technically-minded individual with an exceptional eye for detail. Our clients praise his quiet efficiency, tidiness, and precision.

    Beyond his professional expertise, JD is passionately involved in his hobbies and personal pursuits of coaching hockey, providing spiritual guidance as a pastor, and cherishing time spent with his wife and two children.

    Chris

    Chris brings over 12 years of experience in the home improvement industry, specializing in shower doors, gas fireplaces, and custom closets before joining the A Shade Above team. His extensive hands-on experience, attention to detail, and commitment to quality ensure every installation is completed with precision and care. He is known for his exceptional customer service, strong work ethic, and dedication to making sure every project is completed to the highest standards.

    Outside of work, Chris is a devoted father to his two young boys. He enjoys coaching youth sports, staying active, and spending as much time outdoors as possible with his family.

    Paul

    Paul is a seasoned professional with over 40 years of experience in the construction industry, specializing in installing interior trim and cabinetry. 

    Originally from England, Paul completed his carpentry apprenticeship there, developing a strong foundation in craftsmanship evident in every project he completes.  He takes great pride in delivering quality work and his meticulous eye for detail ensures precise, high quality results that consistently impress our clients. 

    Outside of work, Paul enjoys riding motorcycles and dirt bikes, often spending time camping and exploring with his wife and beloved dog Bear.

    Holly

    Holly is the beloved four-legged team member at A Shade Above. Holly brings smiles to everyone she meets and takes her role as office security greeter very seriously.

    When she's off the clock, Holly enjoys riding in the car, belly rubs, and happily accepting treats or snacks from absolutely anyone willing to share. She loves spending time with her family and keeps the office entertained with her lovable personality and food-loving charm.
